Product Introduction

Sicriptin 5mg tablet contains bromocriptine as its active component. It is a dopamine agonist that activates certain dopamine receptors in the brain. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter whose regulation is essential for several physiological functions.

The medication is primarily used to treat hyperprolactinemia, a condition characterised by elevated prolactin levels in the blood. High prolactin levels can cause infertility, irregular menstrual periods, and milk production in non-pregnant women. Sicriptin 5mg tablet is also used as adjunct therapy for Parkinson's disease, where it improves motor symptoms by activating dopamine receptors. It may be part of treatment for acromegaly, a condition resulting from excess growth hormone production. The medication can be used to manage neuroleptic malignant syndrome, a rare and potentially life-threatening condition associated with certain antipsychotic medications. Although not a primary diabetes medication, it has been used off-label to improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Sicriptin 5mg tablet is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity or allergy to bromocriptine or any of its components. The medication can cause changes in blood pressure and is contraindicated in individuals with uncontrolled hypertension. It is contraindicated in individuals with postpartum hypertension or a history of toxemia of pregnancy.

Patients with a history of cardiovascular disorders, including angina, myocardial infarction, or peripheral vascular disease, should use Sicriptin 5mg tablet with caution due to potential effects on blood pressure. The medication can affect the central nervous system and may exacerbate certain psychiatric conditions. Caution is needed when prescribing this medication to individuals with a history of psychiatric disorders.

Uses

Sicriptin 5mg tablet is used to treat the following: Hyperprolactinemia Parkinson's disease Acromegaly Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) Type 2 diabetes (off-label use)

How it works

Sicriptin 5mg tablet exerts its therapeutic effect as a dopamine agonist, activating dopamine receptors in the brain. This results in regulating dopamine levels and leads to various beneficial outcomes. This medication lowers prolactin levels in hyperprolactinemia, alleviating associated symptoms like irregular menstrual periods and infertility. For Parkinson's disease, it improves motor symptoms by compensating for dopamine deficiency. In acromegaly, it reduces growth hormone levels, mitigating abnormal tissue growth. It can also manage neuroleptic malignant syndrome emergencies. While occasionally used off-label, it may help improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. These diverse therapeutic effects make this medication valuable in treating various medical conditions related to dopamine imbalance.

How to Use

Sicriptin 5mg tablet should be taken exactly as prescribed by a healthcare professional. It is available in various forms, such as tablets or capsules. The dosage and frequency depend on the medical condition being treated. This medication can be taken with or without food, and patients should not adjust the dosage or stop taking it without medical guidance.
