Product Introduction
Silnafil 25mg Tablet contains sildenafil as its active ingredient. This medication is indicated for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) in adults and children. PAH is characterised by elevated blood pressure in the arteries that transport blood from the heart to the lungs. Silnafil 25mg Tablet belongs to the class of phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE-5) inhibitors, which includes sildenafil formulations used for erectile dysfunction. Patients with PAH commonly experience dyspnoea and limited exercise capacity due to increased pressure in the pulmonary arteries. Silnafil 25mg Tablet can enhance exercise capacity by reducing strain on the heart and lungs, enabling patients to perform physical activities with greater ease. PAH is a chronic condition that substantially affects daily functioning and quality of life. By managing symptoms and disease progression, this medication can improve quality of life in individuals with PAH. It is among the few medications approved for paediatric PAH, representing an important therapeutic option for children with this condition. Silnafil 25mg Tablet may cause temporary reduction in blood pressure, particularly when combined with other antihypertensive medications or in patients with underlying hypotension. Caution is warranted in patients with low blood pressure. Pre-existing cardiac conditions must be disclosed to the healthcare provider before commencing treatment. Patients with severe hepatic or renal impairment may require dose modification or close monitoring during therapy. Silnafil 25mg Tablet is contraindicated with concurrent use of nitrates (nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, isosorbide mononitrate) or medications containing nitric oxide donors. This combination may result in severe hypotension.
Uses
Silnafil 25mg Tablet is used to treat the following: Pulmonary arterial hypertension
How it works
This medication works by relaxing the blood vessels in the lungs, reducing the pressure in the pulmonary arteries, and improving blood flow. This helps to alleviate symptoms of PAH and improve exercise capacity.
How to Use
It comes in the form of a powder that needs to be mixed with water to create a suspension. Your healthcare provider will provide the exact dosing instructions, so it is crucial to follow their recommendations carefully. Generally, the suspension is taken three times a day, with at least 4 to 6 hours between doses. It can be taken with or without food. Shake the bottle well before each use and measure the prescribed dose using the provided oral syringe or dosing cup.
Side Effects
Silnafil 25mg Tablet causes some side effects like all medications, although not everyone will experience them. Serious: Sudden vision loss or vision changes Sudden hearing loss or changes in hearing Prolonged and painful erection (priapism) Severe allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, difficulty breathing) Chest pain or heart-related symptoms Common: Headache Flushing (reddening and warming of the face and skin) Upset stomach or indigestion Nasal congestion Dizziness or lightheadedness Diarrhea Nausea Back pain Muscle pain
Expert Tips
Inform your healthcare provider about your complete medical history, including any existing health conditions, medications, or supplements you are taking, to avoid potential drug interactions or contraindications. Follow your prescribed dosage carefully and avoid taking more than the recommended amount. Silnafil 25mg Tablet should not be used with nitrates or nitric oxide donors, as this can lead to a dangerous drop in blood pressure. If you experience sudden vision or hearing changes, prolonged and painful erections, or any severe allergic reactions, seek immediate medical attention. For women, this medication is not approved for use during pregnancy, and breastfeeding mothers should consult their healthcare provider for personalized advice. Regularly communicate with your healthcare provider and attend follow-up appointments to monitor your response to the medication and address any concerns.
