Sofolyte powder contains Lactitol Monohydrate and Ispaghula husk granules as active components. It is a bulk-forming laxative used to treat constipation. The ispaghula husk, a natural fibre, absorbs water and swells in the intestines, which helps soften stool and facilitates easier passage. Sofolyte is also indicated for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and diverticulitis. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a gastrointestinal disorder characterised by chronic abdominal pain or discomfort and changes in bowel habits, including diarrhea, constipation, or both, without any underlying structural or organic causes. The formulation does not cause dehydration and diarrhea. It does not cause tolerance, so it will continue to work even with long-term use. Sofolyte powder should not be used in patients with appendicitis, intestinal obstruction, lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, unexplained abdominal pain or bleeding, galactosaemia, faecal impaction, lack of muscle tone in the colon, or those who have undergone ileostomy or colostomy. It is generally safe for use in children over 6 years of age. However, it is important to consult your doctor before giving Sofolyte 180gm powder to children and older people, particularly if they have any underlying medical conditions.
