Product Introduction
Tasigna 200mg capsule is an antineoplastic medication containing the active ingredient nilotinib. It belongs to the class of tyrosine kinase inhibitors. This medicine is used to treat Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myeloid leukaemia (Ph-positive CML), a blood cancer characterised by abnormal white blood cell production. In adult and paediatric patients, it is indicated for newly diagnosed chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) and for patients experiencing adverse effects from previous treatment. It is also used in patients with CML who no longer respond to prior treatment, including imatinib.
Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to nilotinib or any other ingredients in this formulation. Notify your doctor if you have a current or past history of heart conditions including heart attack, abnormal electrical signals, chest pain, cerebral stroke, or claudication (reduced blood flow in the legs). Inform your doctor if you have liver or pancreatic disease, or if you have hypokalaemia or hypomagnesaemia. Disclose all medications to your doctor, particularly those used to lower blood cholesterol. Inform your doctor about your medical history, especially any prior hepatitis B infection, as this medicine may reactivate hepatitis B, which can be fatal in some cases. Avoid consuming grapefruit or grapefruit juice. Inform your doctor if you have sugar intolerance, as Tasigna 200mg contains lactose.
During treatment, your doctor may order regular blood tests to monitor liver and pancreatic function, and blood cell counts (white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets). Monitoring will also assess heart function through electrocardiography (QT interval prolongation), electrolyte levels, and glucose and lipid concentrations to evaluate tolerability of Tasigna 200mg. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Use effective contraception during treatment with this medicine.
Uses
Blood cancer (Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myeloid leukemia) in adults and pediatrics.
How it works
BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase is responsible for the uncontrolled division of cells in the CML. Tasigna 200mg disrupts the signaling route of the protein kinase enzyme which targets the BCR-ABL protein and inhibits the growth and spread of cancer cells.
How to Use
