Thromplat 50mg Tablet is an anticoagulant medicine that belongs to the thrombopoietin (TPO) receptor agonist class and contains the active ingredient Eltrombopag. It is used to treat low platelet counts associated with primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) or hepatitis C (HCV) infection. ITP is an autoimmune condition in which the body's immune system attacks and destroys platelets. Platelets are blood cells that help with clot formation and maintain the integrity of blood vessel walls. A reduced platelet count can lead to excessive bleeding and easy bruising. This tablet is also prescribed for adults with severe aplastic anaemia to manage low blood cell counts caused by the bone marrow's inability to produce sufficient new blood cells.

This medicine should not be taken by individuals who are allergic to Eltrombopag or any of the tablet's ingredients. Allergic reactions may vary from mild to severe and can include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or breathing difficulties. Thromplat 50mg Tablet is contraindicated in patients with severe liver impairment or active liver disease. It may cause liver toxicity, which can be identified through elevated liver enzymes and bilirubin levels. Therefore, extra caution is necessary in people with existing liver disorders, as the medicine may further affect liver function.

Your doctor may recommend regular eye examinations to monitor for cataracts. If you do not undergo routine eye check-ups, your doctor may schedule them during treatment. You may also be examined for bleeding in or around the retina, the light-sensitive tissue located at the back of the eye.

If you discontinue this tablet, your platelet count may decrease again within a few days. Your doctor will regularly monitor your platelet levels and advise you on the necessary precautions. While a very high platelet count can increase the risk of blood clots, clotting may also occur even when platelet levels are normal or low. Your doctor will adjust the dosage of this medicine to help maintain a safe platelet count.

Avoid taking this tablet with milk or other dairy products because the calcium they contain can reduce the absorption of the medicine. Use reliable contraception while receiving treatment, and inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant. Thromplat 50mg Tablet is not recommended for children below one year of age with ITP. It is also not advised for patients younger than 18 years with low platelet counts caused by hepatitis C infection or severe aplastic anaemia.

If you forget to take Thromplat 50mg Tablet, take your next dose at the usual time. Do not take more than one dose of this drug daily. Don’t stop taking this tablet without talking to your doctor.
