Product Introduction

Thyronorm 88mcg tablet contains levothyroxine, a synthetic form of thyroxine sodium—a hormone naturally produced by the thyroid gland. It is indicated for the treatment of hypothyroidism, a chronic condition in which the thyroid gland produces inadequate thyroid hormone. The thyroid releases tri-iodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4), hormones that regulate metabolic function and energy utilisation. These hormones are essential for proper regulation of the heart and digestive system; without adequate levels, the body cannot function effectively.

Common side effects include diarrhoea, vomiting, weight loss, heat intolerance, headache, nervousness, irregular menstrual periods, sweating, muscle weakness or cramps, and tremors. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience facial, lip, or tongue swelling; thyroid crisis (a severe reaction to elevated thyroid hormone levels); very high temperature; or palpitations (irregular heartbeat), as these may indicate serious complications.

Inform your healthcare provider before use if you have heart conditions such as angina, coronary artery disease, or high blood pressure. Disclose any history of epilepsy or panhypopituitarism (a hormonal disorder). In patients with diabetes mellitus, this medication may worsen glycaemic control, necessitating increased doses of insulin or antidiabetic medication. Close monitoring of blood glucose levels is important before initiating, adjusting, or discontinuing thyroid hormone therapy with Thyronorm 88mcg tablet. Your physician will determine the appropriate dose based on body weight and thyroid function tests. Regular monitoring of thyroid function is essential to confirm treatment effectiveness.

Uses

How it works

Thyronorm 88mcg tablet is a synthetic form of thyroid hormone produced by the thyroid gland. It replaces the thyroid hormones that your thyroid gland cannot generate sufficiently and relieves hypothyroidism symptoms like tiredness, weight gain, and depression.

How to Use

Take Thyronorm 88mcg tablet as prescribed by your doctor. It should be taken orally before breakfast or the day's first meal. Swallow the tablets as a whole with plenty of water. Do not crush, break or chew the tablets.

Side Effects

Side effects are unwanted symptoms caused by medicines. Even though all medications cause side effects, not everyone gets them. Serious: Swelling of face, lips, tongue Thyroid crisis (severe reaction to high levels of thyroid hormone) Very high temperature Palpitations (irregular heartbeat) Low blood pressure Fits and coma Heart failure Jaundice Confusion Common: Diarrhea, vomiting Intolerance to heat Weight loss Headache Nervousness Irregular periods Sweating Muscle weakness or cramps Tremors, restlessness Hair loss Flushing (sense of warmth in the face, ears, neck, and trunk) Increased pressure around the brain in children (benign intracranial hypertension)

Expert Tips

You will be advised to take regular thyroid function tests (T3, T4, and TSH) if you are taking Thyronorm 88mcg tablet. This medication is not indicated for obesity or weight loss treatment. Your physician advises regular blood sugar monitoring, as this medicine causes fluctuation in blood sugar levels. Including iodized salt in your diet is essential because the thyroid gland requires iodine for making thyroid hormones.
