Product Introduction

Toxylac 1.5gm Injection is a combination antibiotic containing Ampicillin and Sulbactam, two well-established medicines with proven safety and effectiveness when used as prescribed. It is commonly used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms. Ampicillin, a penicillin-class antibiotic, works by preventing the growth and multiplication of bacteria and is effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that blocks bacterial enzymes responsible for breaking down penicillin antibiotics. By combining Sulbactam with Ampicillin, Toxylac 1.5gm Injection provides enhanced protection against bacteria that produce beta-lactamase enzymes, improving the overall effectiveness of the treatment.

Do not use Toxylac 1.5gm Injection if you have a history of severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, to penicillins, cephalosporins, or other beta-lactam antibiotics. This medicine is also contraindicated in patients with infectious mononucleosis (glandular fever) because it may significantly increase the risk of developing a skin rash. In addition, Toxylac 1.5gm Injection should be used with caution or avoided in individuals with a history of Clostridioides difficile-associated colitis, as antibiotic treatment may worsen this serious intestinal infection or increase the risk of recurrence. Always inform your doctor about your complete medical history before starting treatment to ensure the medicine is safe and appropriate for your condition.

How it works

Ampicillin is a penicillin-type antibiotic that belongs to the beta-lactam class. It inhibits the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. Bacterial cell walls are essential for their survival and protection, and without a functional cell wall, bacteria cannot maintain their structure and integrity. Ampicillin interferes with the enzymes involved in synthesizing the bacterial cell wall, leading to its weakening and eventual lysis (breakdown). Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Beta-lactamase is an enzyme certain bacteria produce to break down and inactivate beta-lactam antibiotics, including penicillins. Combining sulbactam with ampicillin makes the medication effective against bacteria that produce beta-lactamases. Sulbactam inhibits the action of these enzymes, preventing them from degrading ampicillin. This allows ampicillin to remain active and exert its antibacterial effect.
