Product Introduction

Vascel 20IU Injection contains vasopressin as its active component. Vasopressin, also known as antidiuretic hormone (ADH), is a peptide hormone that maintains water balance and regulates blood pressure in the body. This medication is used for diabetes insipidus. It has been used as an alternative to epinephrine in certain cases of cardiac arrest. In severe haemorrhagic shock (life-threatening blood loss), it may be used to increase blood pressure and support perfusion to vital organs. Diabetes insipidus is a rare disorder characterised by excessive thirst and urination due to insufficient production of or response to antidiuretic hormone. Cardiac arrest is a sudden, life-threatening condition in which the heart stops beating, resulting in cessation of blood flow and loss of consciousness. A primary function of this medication is to regulate water balance in the body. It also produces vasoconstrictive effects on blood vessels. During physical or emotional stress, this medication is released as part of the body's stress response, aiding in water conservation and increasing blood pressure to manage stress. This medication has been associated with various social behaviours and bonding in certain animal species, including pair bonding and maternal behaviours. Allergic reactions and other adverse effects may occur and require careful monitoring and management by healthcare professionals during administration. The water-retaining effects of Vascel 20IU Injection can potentially lead to low sodium levels (hyponatremia) if not appropriately monitored. Its vasoconstrictive effects can cause significant increases in blood pressure. Therefore, use with caution in patients with hypertension or other cardiovascular conditions. Proper dosage adjustment and monitoring are required in paediatric and elderly patients during administration.

Uses

Vascel 20IU Injection is used to treat the following: Diabetes Insipidus Cardiac Arrest Hemorrhagic Shock

How it works

Vascel 20IU Injection acts by binding to V2 receptors in the kidneys to increase water reabsorption, reducing urine output in diabetes insipidus. In cardiac arrest, it targets V1 receptors in blood vessels, causing vasoconstriction, elevating blood pressure, and improving blood flow during resuscitation. In severe hemorrhagic shock, its vasoconstrictive effects help maintain blood pressure and support vital organ perfusion until definitive treatment can be provided. Proper monitoring and dosing are essential due to their potent cardiovascular effects.

Side Effects

Vascel 20IU Injection causes some side effects like all medications, although not everyone will experience them. Serious: Allergic reactions Chest pain or irregular heartbeats Severe headache Confusion Changes in mental state Seizures Severe abdominal pain or cramping Common: Nausea or vomiting Stomach cramps Headache Dizziness or lightheadedness Runny or stuffy nose Increased thirst Water retention or swelling
