Product Introduction
Velcade 3.5mg Injection contains the active ingredient Bortezomib, an anticancer medicine that belongs to the class of proteasome inhibitors. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of multiple myeloma and mantle cell lymphoma, which are two types of blood cancers. Velcade is commonly prescribed in combination with other chemotherapy medicines, including doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, dexamethasone, thalidomide, or rituximab, particularly for patients who have not undergone or are not eligible for stem cell transplantation. The medicine works by inhibiting the proteasome system inside cells, which is responsible for breaking down damaged or unwanted proteins. By blocking this process, Velcade causes toxic proteins to accumulate within cancer cells, leading to their destruction and helping to slow the growth and spread of cancer.
Velcade can be administered through different routes, with the method selected by the treating oncologist according to the patient's treatment plan. A commonly searched topic is Velcade 3.5mg subcutaneous vs IV, where subcutaneous administration (under the skin) is often preferred because of its improved tolerability, while intravenous (IV) administration may be chosen depending on the hospital protocol and clinical requirements. The Velcade 3.5mg injection dosage cycle is carefully determined based on the patient's medical condition, response to therapy, and the combination chemotherapy regimen being followed.
Uses
Velcade 3.5mg injection uses: Treatment of multiple myeloma Treatment of mantle cell lymphoma
How it works
Velcade blocks a protein complex called the 26S proteasome, which plays a key role in regulating protein breakdown inside cells. This blockage causes damaged proteins to accumulate in cancer cells, disrupting their function and triggering cell death (apoptosis). It also helps enhance the effects of other chemotherapy drugs and reduces cancer cell growth.
