Product Introduction

Vildanat 50mg Tablet is an antidiabetic medication belonging to the class of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors. It contains the active ingredient Vildagliptin and is indicated in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Type 2 diabetes is a condition characterised by elevated blood glucose levels, occurring when body cells become resistant to insulin's effects. Due to this insulin resistance, blood glucose levels rise. In type 2 diabetes, the body either produces insufficient insulin or the insulin produced is not utilised effectively. This condition is also known as non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus and is commonly referred to as mature onset diabetes, as it typically develops after middle age.

Avoid taking this medicine if you suspect an allergy to the drug or any of its components. This drug is not recommended in individuals with diabetic ketoacidosis, a serious complication of diabetes caused by elevated blood sugar and the presence of ketones in the blood. Do not use Vildanat 50mg Tablet if you are taking sulphonylurea-class antidiabetic medicines, if you are on dialysis due to kidney problems or have liver disease, or if you have experienced heart failure or have a history of pancreatic disease. Your doctor may need to adjust the dose of any concomitant antidiabetic medicine when taking it with Vildanat 50mg Tablet to prevent hypoglycaemia.

This drug should not be used during pregnancy unless specifically advised by your physician. Notify your physician if you are pregnant, suspect pregnancy, or are planning for pregnancy. It is not known whether Vildanat 50mg Tablet passes into breast milk. Do not use this drug if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. This medication is not to be taken by children and adolescents under 18 years of age, likely due to limited safety and efficacy data in this age group.

How it works

Vildanat 50mg Tablet works by inhibiting the enzyme DPP-4. This enzyme breaks down incretin hormones, which are responsible for increasing insulin release and decreasing glucagon secretion. By inhibiting DPP-4, this drug prolongs the action of incretin hormones, leading to better blood sugar control.
