Virashiv Tablet

Virashiv tablet is an antiviral drug comprising non-nucleoside and nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors. It contains Efavirenz, Emtricitabine, and Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate, and is used in the treatment of HIV-1 infection. HIV-1 is a human immunodeficiency virus that attacks and weakens the immune system. This infection progressively compromises immune function, rendering patients with HIV-1 increasingly vulnerable to opportunistic infections.

This tablet is not recommended for patients who have experienced hypersensitivity reactions to Efavirenz, Emtricitabine, or Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate. Patients with pancreatitis or those at risk of pancreatitis should use this combination medicine with caution. During treatment, your doctor may periodically monitor blood counts, bone mineral density, and liver and kidney parameters to prevent serious complications. Inform your doctor if you have a history of heart failure, seizures, pancreatitis, bone disease, fractures, mental illnesses, or liver or kidney problems. Seek immediate medical attention from a nearby hospital if you experience psychiatric symptoms such as depression or suicidal thoughts during treatment.

Adults of childbearing potential should consider using an effective contraceptive to prevent unwanted pregnancy. Avoid becoming pregnant during and 12 weeks after the last dose of Virashiv tablet. If you are pregnant or suspect you might be pregnant, your physician may suggest an alternative treatment, as this combination regimen is not recommended during early pregnancy. Breastfeeding is largely not recommended due to the potential transmission of HIV from mother to infant.

Treatment of HIV-1 infection

Virashiv tablets increase the number of CD4 T cells and stimulate the immune system to fight against infections. Thereby, it reduces the viral load of HIV in the blood and decreases the severity of HIV infection.

Take the Virashiv tablet as advised by your physician. Swallow the tablets whole and intact. This tablet should be taken with food. Your physician will decide the correct dosage and duration based on age, body weight, and disease condition. Only stop taking the medicine if your doctor advises you to stop.

Take this tablet correctly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not change the dose or stop taking the tablet without consulting your healthcare provider. Inform your doctor about any other tablets or supplements you take, as they may interact with this tablet. It mainly includes over-the-counter medications and vitamins. Your doctor can advise you on the possible interactions and help manage them. It is highly advised to take this tablet with a meal, preferably in the evening at bedtime, so that it can help to minimise the dizziness and other central nervous system side effects that can occur with this medication.
