Cancer is a disease characterised by abnormal and uncontrolled cell multiplication. This medication is also used to prevent recurrence of cancer in the colon following complete surgical removal of the tumour.
Common side effects include loss of appetite, headache, rhinorrhoea, fever, alopecia, and dry mouth. During treatment, your doctor may periodically monitor your complete blood counts, prothrombin time, and INR to prevent serious complications.
Inform your doctor if you have been diagnosed with gastric ulcers, cataracts, lung disease, cardiac problems, liver disease, skin conditions, or kidney disease. Notify your physician before undergoing eye surgery or dental procedures. Report any allergic or unusual reactions after taking this tablet.
This medicine may cause fertility issues. Discuss any fertility concerns with your doctor before starting treatment. Common Xeloda 500 mg substitutes include Capecitabine generics or Fluorouracil; however, consult your doctor before switching medications. Xeloda 500mg Tablet is not recommended for children and adolescents.
Before taking this medicine, seek physician advice if you are intolerant to sugars, as this chemotherapy medication contains lactose. This drug will not be administered if you have low white blood cell or platelet count, chickenpox, shingles, or dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD) deficiency.

How it works
Xeloda 500mg is prescribed alone and also in combination with other anticancer medications like Docetaxel and Oxaliplatin. It stops the growth of cancer cells by inhibiting DNA synthesis. This drug gets converted into its active form called fluorouracil and interferes with cell signaling, ultimately preventing the multiplication of cancer cells.
How to Use
Take a Xeloda 500mg Tablet as prescribed by your doctor. Do not crush or chew the tablet. If you miss a dose of this tablet, take it as soon as you can if it is within 12 hours of the missed dose. If it is over 12 hours since your missed dose, skip the missed Xeloda dosage and go back to your usual dosing times to avoid taking double doses. Call your doctor to ask about making up the missed dose.
