Zexipag 400mcg Tablet

Zexipag 400mcg Tablet is a pulmonary vasodilator containing the active ingredient Selexipag, a prostacyclin receptor agonist. It is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) to improve exercise capacity and delay disease progression. Pulmonary arterial hypertension is a serious and rare medical condition characterised by elevated blood pressure in the arteries supplying the lungs. It affects the small blood vessels (arteries) in the lungs, causing their narrowing and increased resistance to blood flow.

Do not take this medication if you have known hypersensitivity or allergy to Selexipag or any component of this tablet. It is contraindicated in patients with severe coronary heart disease, unstable angina, recent myocardial infarction, decompensated cardiac failure, severe cardiac arrhythmia, or certain cardiac valve defects. It is also contraindicated if you have experienced a stroke within the preceding three months or any other cerebrovascular event that reduces blood supply to the brain. Concurrent use with gemfibrozil (a medication used to lower lipid levels) is contraindicated.

This medication is contraindicated during pregnancy as it may cause fetal harm. Breastfeeding is not recommended in patients taking Zexipag 400mcg Tablet because it is unknown whether this medicine is excreted into breast milk and whether it may harm the nursing infant.

Selexipag is metabolised and excreted by the kidneys. Patients with severe renal impairment or those undergoing dialysis require dosage adjustment or an alternative medication, as determined by your physician.

Zexipag 400mcg Tablet works by activating the prostacyclin receptors in the blood vessels of the lungs. This activation leads to the relaxation and widening of the blood vessels, reducing the elevated blood pressure in the pulmonary arteries.
